We booked this for a Valentines getaway, went online and looked past the "best
available rate" at $130, to the "last minute rate" and found a $79 special! At
this rate there were no King bed rooms so we got the 2 Queens, and of course
this was not lakeside, but we had a little balcony that once you looked over the
parking lot you got a nice city lights view in the evening.
The room was very clean, and if we hadn't been spoiled at our last casino/hotel
getaway stay at the beautiful Quest in Spokane, I would have probably thought it
was closer to a 4 *.
I think if the hotel would upgrade the bedding to duvets, and eventually memory
foam mattresses it would really bring the rooms up. Not that we found the beds
uncomfortable, just not as luxurious as we are becoming accustomed to.
Really, if I had to pick something to complain about, the only thing I could say
is that the walls were thin. Noise and people in the hall were were easily
heard. But I have stayed in lots of hotels where that was the case, and it
certainly wouldn't put me off booking a room here again!

I've been forced to go to this hotel twice on business when travelling with
other colleagues. My first experience was bad, my second was TERRIBLE!
First off, during the winter Penticton is dead - however this hotel still
charges for parking in an empty parking lot. Probably the only hotel south of
Kelowna in the valley that charges for parking.
We spent maybe 10 minutes at the front counter as a group waiting to be served -
one of us finally called the hotel on our cell phone and could clearly hear the
phone ringing, but nobody answered. Finally someone showed up that looked like
they just woke up from a nap to book us in our rooms. Somehow my name was
rearranged and it took awhile to find my reservation.
Upon finally getting a room key (about 25 minutes after walking in the hotel),
we jumped in an elevator that reaked of lemon Lysol and moth balls (I was
coughing) and went to our rooms.
My room was philthy! In fact, it wasn't even cleaned yet from the previous
guest! I called the front desk and was given a new room down the hall, that was
slightly cleaner (the bed was made and towels were folded) but had white dust
(looked like breadcrumbs) all over the one section of the floor. The TV remote
also didn't work, and the faucents chugged some air before forcing out some
stench of gas before water came out in the bathroom.
Cleaning staff came with a vacuum to clean the floor and I was told maintenance
was going to look at the sink (which I believe never happened).
After dinner, I bought some milk and sodas to put in the fridge back at the
hotel - and found some food/drinks already in the fridge! I guess the cleaning
staff doesn't care to check the fridge as I had a part bottle of wine and some
rough looking cheese left for me...
Rolling down the covers, the bed looked clean but I had a very poor sleep
thinking of what unpleasantness could be in the bed and was very tired the next
day. I was very happy to get to another hotel to get 12 hours of straight sleep
in a clean environment.
My business colleagues had some nasty experiences themselves which I hope they
post on this site.

What a great resort! I had a great view for a great price. I went here with my
girlfriend for a vacation and found this resort. Don't listen to the other
reviews, this place was top notch. My TV worked just fine and I did not see a
single bed bug in my bed. If you want to have a great view of the lake at a
great price then stay here!
You won't regret it!

As is our custom, we decided to on a New Year's romantic couples getaway. We
like to keep things local, so as to be able to fully enjoy ourselves without the
need to travel. This year, it was at the Penticton Lakeside Resort. their
"Getaway Package" included 2 nights with 1 dinner and 2 breakfasts.
Check-in was friendly and efficient and parking was convenient.
Our room was located - due to early booking - on the top (6th) floor and enjoyed
a lake view. As it's the winter, while the view was very nice, it'd probably be
even better during the warmer months. The room, itself, was a decent size and
everything was clean. The furnishings, while not new, were in good working
order. Flat screen tv was fine and the mini fridge kept things cold.
Nice room amenities. Good bathrobes are provided. The shampoo and stuff was all
good product (if you care about such things!) and, unlike many other hotels,
there's complimentary bottled water provided along with little coffee creamers
(not the powder). Nice little touch. Additionally, an evening treat of delicious
cookies and apples are brought to your room each evening.
The bathroom was comfortably large and well lit. Lot's of hot water and good
pressure.
We had a king-size bed and found it to be very comfortable. Better than average
sitting area, too. If there's any criticism to be made, it would be with the
heating/cooling unit. A friend, in the industry, calls these units "wallbangers"
and they're very common in hotels. This one, while not loud all the time, had
moments (unfortunately, in the wee hours) where it was REALLY loud. Only
happened a couple of times, but, management should be aware that it foretells of
a need to change it, soon.
The indoor pool and hot tub were good. The water, in the pool, was nice and it's
large enough to do laps - if that's what you want! The hot tub was, well...hot!
Nice jets, too. The fitness centre, unfortunately, was closed due to the holiday
(it's part of a fitness club), but, in looking through the window, it looks
spacious with lots of new equipment. The business centre looks pretty nice, as
well.
We enjoyed both on-site restaurants and the bar and found them to be quite nice.
Separate reviews, on those.
The casino is REALLY small. It's ok. Probably would have liked it a lot more if
I'd have won...
It was a nice stay. Worth checking out, if you're in Penticton. |
